Glenrowan to Wagga

Run through the night was almost a non starter as we stopped in Albury for refueling and some one left the key of the van on the support vehicle as it drove off not realising this has now been known as the Key Moment of the challenge.... we found the key and the journey continued - running through the night proved to be much cooler and enjoyable apart from the total lack of sleep.

All the lads are in good spirits and bodies are holding up to the punishment of the km's covered and lack of sleep and cramped quarters.

Into Wagga and meet by local TV, radio and paper, on to Barbeques Galore for a wonderful reception and great BBQ.

Now enjoying the final hours in 2009 doing laps of town

Getting ready for the challenge

Just met with Glenn and he is buzzing - getting things ready for the challenge next month.

The “Pink Lads” challenge
29/12/09 to 3/1/10

An extreme physical and mental test will occur in a continuous running team from the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) to the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) over the New Year period. The runners will be confined to live on a mini bus with no facilities except for a seat for a period of four days while they run from the MCG to the SCG to promote the awareness of Breast Cancer in Women on behalf of the McGrath Foundation. The runners are well known sportsmen from various sporting backgrounds and will have to use every single lesson they have learned during their sporting careers to survive the mental and physical test of sleep depravation, no comfortable facilities for eating, sleeping and showering, at the same time being able to continuously back up and run ten klms every seven hours over four days in varying climatic conditions. The challenge is a true test of “sporting ability, prowess and mental toughness” with the intention to raise funds for the McGrath Foundation nurses. An added factor is that the runners will be on the bus over the New Year celebratory period further testing their mental strengths away from their regular “comfort zones”. The only exception to leave the bus will be to run or for a nature stop! Should a runner decide to withdraw from the challenge he will then place added responsibilities on the other runners to cover the additional running klms. Big Brother on a bus, here we come!

The planned challenge is over 1000klms and commences at the tea break on the fourth day of the Boxing day test at the MCG which will start with a single group lap of the oval and then exit out onto the route towards Sydney via the Hume Highway, M5,M7,M2, Harbour Bridge and then Anzac Parade with the runners taking turns of ten klms each continuously until they reach the Sydney Cricket Ground on Day three, Jane McGrath Day, around lunch time to complete a single group lap to complete the run. The team will then assist with fund raising activities for the McGrath Foundation during the afternoon session of the test.

The running uniform will be a pink shirt embossed with the McGrath Foundation Logo and the words “Stop and Donate” as depicted in the photos below. Runners and support members will have pink donation buckets and bottles and will be collecting funds along the course.

The proposed, but yet to be confirmed runners are;
